Nanofabrication Lithography Researcher

AR/VR | Redmond, WA

Facebook is a world leader in the design of augmented reality systems. We are currently seeking innovative research and development scientists with a passion to develop next generation optical systems, concepts, and components for consumer near-to-eye displays at our research and development facilities located in Redmond, WA. The primary responsibility is developing processes, materials, and tooling to support validation of optical architectures focused on next generation display systems leveraging nanostructured optics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop processes to support the fabrication and testing of new optical concepts with applications in augmented reality display and optics technology.
  • Collaboratively work with the broader research community to advance new technology elements with a focus on new processes, tools, and materials, enabling differentiation in our optical system design space.
  • Own all aspects of patterning within the project teams to support modeling and prototyping for next-generation optics and displays.
  • Engage cross-functionally with other researchers and engineers in Facebook AR/VR to develop concepts that advance the entire product pipeline (hardware, software, integration, infrastructure, and applications).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a PhD program or completing a postdoctoral assignment in Physics, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field, or an MS degree with 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience with fabrication of advanced optical devices using nanofabrication or microfabrication techniques.
  • Experience with lithographic tooling, materials, and processing including electron beam, nanoimprint, projection, contact, and interferometric.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment.
  • Experience coordinating experiments cross-functionally with design and cleanroom staff.
  • Experience working, collaborating, and communicating in a cross-functional environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, or a similar field.
  • 3+ years experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Knowledge of diffractive optics or photonics.
  • Experience with projection, and nanoimprint lithography for semiconductor, photonic, or memory applications.
  • Experience with structured problems solving and standard industrial risk assessments.
  • Experience fabricating and testing diffractive optical components.
  • Experience with grants, fellowships, patents, or first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as Applied Optics, Optics Letters, Optics Express, SIGGRAPH, SID, OSA, or SPIE.
  • Experience with electron beam lithography.
  • Experience in nanofabrication techniques such as Nano-imprint Lithography, Etch, Deposition, or Wets within the lab.
