Senior Hard Surface Artist

343 has an incredible opportunity for a motivated, experienced, and professional Senior Hard Surface Environment Artist. This role will specialize in creating exceptional quality geometry for our environments with maximum visual impact that are also highly optimized for run time performance. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional eye and execution skills for shape, color, and composition. Additionally, the candidate will have a deep understanding on how to generate gameplay friendly collision as well and highly optimize LODs. This candidate is knowledgeable on modeling and geometry capture trends as well a deep understanding of the construction process for modern game environments including world building, layout and lighting.

This role is expected to be extremely creative, highly collaborative and be effective in communicating and incorporating feedback. This role will work closely with Lead Environment Artists, World Building Artists and Art Directors. The ideal candidate must be highly effective and positive in ambiguous situations, able to self-motivate to high performance, manage time effectively and react quickly to changing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Create exceptional hard surface palettes and assets that fit within the overall art direction
• Create highly optimized assets for real-time rendering
• Build modular architecture and kits to support an intuitive and consistent world building experience
• Collaborate with design and fellow artists to build the best game experience possible
• Actively seek out, incorporate, and provide feedback to and from peers, both internal and external
• Constantly improve and advocate for best-in-class content creation and production practices

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• 5+ years of environment art production experience for console or PC games

 

Preferred Qualifications:
• Must be highly experienced with the fundamentals of 3D art creation including high poly and low poly modeling, UV layout, texture, and material creation.
• Have an exceptional understanding of mechanical objects and how that contributes to believability
• Shipped 1 high quality title across multiple SKUs (PC, Xbox One/PS4, Xbox Series X/PS5)
• Experience with large scale environment construction
• Highly proficient with industry standard software such as Maya, 3D Studio Max or Blender
• Good understanding of ZBrush and Photoshop
• Exceptional eye for light, shade, color, form and detail
• Highly organized with excellent spoken and written communication skills
• Highly motivated and contributes to a positive working environment

• Experience with a modern game engine (UE, Unity, etc.)
• Experience working with large and diverse teams while working at scale
• Experience working on FPS or sci-fi games
• Experience with real-time lighting
