343 Industries, the studio developing Halo games, is looking for a Senior Lighting Artist to join our team working on Halo Infinite. As a Senior Lighting Artist, you will be central to creating amazing visuals for one of the most exciting and creative intellectual properties in the industry. Lighting Artists play an invaluable role in art content production, creating lighting for environments, levels, cinematics and characters.  The ideal candidate must be highly effective in ambiguous situations, manage your time effectively and react quickly to changing requirements.  We're looking for a team player with excellent communication skills who can work closely with directors, leads, designers, engineers and of course other artists, but also be self-sufficient and work independently. You will be super creative and flexible, able to bring art direction and concepts to life and most importantly of all be driven to help us produce the highest quality real-time lighting possible.


  • Creation of baked and dynamic lighting using our proprietary game engine software
  • Lighting single player, multiplayer levels and cinematics at the highest level of quality
  • Post processing; color grading, exposure, SSAO, bloom, tone mapping curves etc. 
  • Contributing to the development and placing of visual effects related to lighting and atmosphere. Such as: light flares, fog, god rays and camera optics
  • Document lighting processes, pipelines, workflows and technology
  • Manage lighting solutions within our memory and performance guidelines
  • Educate artists on lighting features, techniques and best practices
  • Help test and verify dynamic and baked lighting solutions and tools
  • Actively improve skills and knowledge base by keeping up to date with cutting edge industry trends and technologies and evaluating new lighting ideas, systems and packages


Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in Lighting for games


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to problem solve and think creatively
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good technical skills and the ability to quickly grasp new technology, workflows and software
  • Understanding of lighting theory; color space, photography, exposure, dynamic range, light fixtures, natural light, color correction, post-process, etc.
  • Strong understanding of real-time lighting technologies, both real-time and pre-rendered; physically based materials and workflows, global illumination and light baking techniques, reflections, occlusion, etc.
  • Understanding of cinematography and dramaturgy; the use of camera technology, scene blocking and lighting to set the mood. 
  • Being pro-active in the use of lighting as a powerful tool in gameplay clarity. For example:​ to guide the player forward, highlight objectives and enemies. 
  • Ability to digest the art direction and champion executing it in the game.
  • Experience in game engines and 3D software, for example UE4, Unity, Maya, 3DS Max
  • Used to working with the balancing between visual quality and performance requirements
  • Passion for and knowledge of games, especially FPS or sci-fi games
